What is a Federal Wildlife Officer (FWO)?
Federal Wildlife Officers are tasked with an important and crucial role: protecting our natural resources, visitors and employees on National Wildlife Refuge System lands. As a FWO, your office is the outdoors you are entrusted to protect. Your duties will vary, but some examples may include:

Conducting surveillance, investigations, and apprehensions for resource, traffic, and criminal crimes
Hunter/ fisher/ boater compliance checks
Coordinating with Federal, State, local and tribal law enforcement agencies for mutual assistance in investigations
Working with visitors and the general public for education
Regular patrol by vehicles, boats, aircrafts, off-road vehicles, horses, bicycles, and on foot.
To become a Federal Wildlife Officer you must successfully:

Complete a comprehensive screening process (Background and psychological investigations)
Pass the Physical Efficiency Battery- for passing scores visit https://www.fletc.gov/peb-scores-age-and-gender
Agility run
Bench press
1.5-mile run
Sit and reach (measures flexibility)
Body composition (measures body fat)
Complete an arduous 17-week course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
Complete three weeks of advanced officer training at the National Conservation Training Center
Complete 10 weeks of field training and evaluation
Complete a one-year probation period
